... And 'The mechanical encyclopedia'.
I would like to share my admiration for this woman, Ángela Ruiz Robles (born March 28, 1895 in Villamarín, Leon - died October 27, 1975 in Ferrol, A Coruña. Spain), she was a teacher, writer and inventor. She dedicated her life to teaching. She was a strong advocate of education. She wanted to make learning easier, lighter and accesible to everyone. And prove to her students that Education is the most powerful tool in life.
Miss Angela invented among other things "The mechanical book" or "The mechanical encyclopedia", an interactive device which allows to lighten the weight of the books carried by her students. The book consisted in a series of text and illustrations on reels, all under a sheet of magnifying glass with a light for reading in the dark, and was to incorporate sound explanations of each topic. For this device she is considered as a pioneer of the electronic book. It was a shame that she couldn't find funding to produce and sell this wonderful idea but it was recognized and awarded at the time, at least.
